|Our Morning Session||Our Afternoon Session|
|8:30 am||1:00 pm||Gradual Entry Begins
Children have almost 2 hours of uninterrupted time to engage the classroom environment, people, materials, and activities according to their individual developmental needs and personal interests. Herein lies the gift of time, which is key to our educational philosophy.
|10:20 am||2:50 pm||Focus Group Time
In an open and lively colloquy amongst all children in the class group, children discuss salient aspects of their play, inquiries, and designs for the day. This daily exchange of ideas supports the interconnectedness of the entire class group as well as the unique relationships that children develop with ideas, with each other, with teachers, with materials, and with the classroom environment. Also, in this context, children bolster a shared experience that stems from what is meaningful amongst the group and helps build the levels of kindness and inclusion amongst the class group. It is a time for each child to show peers—that is the whole class at once— who he or she is as well as to get to know peers more deeply through a class structure that transforms the usual parameters of peer culture toward more explicit cues about how one connects to the group.
|10:30 am||3:00 pm||Snack Time
In small groups, children share healthy food and drink, engage conversation with teachers and peers around topics relevant to the group as well as themes in children’s books, which are usually a part of the snack time experience.
|11:00 am||3:30 pm||Music Time (optional)
While children always have access to musical instruments and might create their own musical experiences outside of this teacher-led focus time for music, we hope to nurture an excitement for music through movement, games, stories, and other innovative activities that use music. For example, the teacher might use a parachute with songs, which means lots of movement and sounds. Children have the power to choose to participate or not in this activity. So, some children may pursue other interests during Music Time.
|11:25 am||3:55 pm||Large Group Time
To end the class session, all children, teachers, and parents gather to share songs and stories (children’s own creations and weekly key books).
|11:45 am||4:15 pm||Program Ends|
